Development can be seen in stages starting with public participation, serial learning, self-reliance, capacity building, empowerment and sustainability.
Housing Development means the establishment and maintenance of habitable, stable and sustainable, public and private residential environments.People should be given easy access to permanent residential structures with secure tenure, ensuring internal and external privacy and providing adequate protection against harming elements.
The development also includes the provision of potable water, adequate sanitary facilities and domestic energy supply. The integrated development plan includes the regulatory bodies and public participation acting within the constitutional framework.The designing of affordable housing is one of the sub branches of Architecture. It involves the surveying of communities and areas with demographic as well as physical information.
It involves micro planning including the individual units, buildings, clusters, open spaces, amenities, internal roads and green areas. The goal of affordable mass housing not only concerns housing design outcomes, maintaining the budgetary and aesthetic dimensions but also contains a sense of society both physically and socially.

Who can be an expert in affordable mass housing?
Candidates who have passed 10+12 examinations with Mathematics are eligible for this course. Architects who have Bachelors degree in Architecture/Planning are eligible to pursue this course.

An Architect can pursue various post graduation courses in Affordable Housing that include Housing and Urbanism, Housing and Neighbourhood Management, Sustainable housing, Collective housing, Housing and City planning, Masters in Housing, Urban Design, Urban Planning to name a few. If you have love for communities and are capable of designing a livable environment for them then you can choose the Program. It will also require surveying, communication, designing, technical, management, innovation and leadership skills.
Government’s duty lies in providing housing micro credit for housing and subsidising the cost of infrastructure to community members in order to reformulate their living from poor, ruined and illegal to rightful with better living conditions. Architects and Urban planners are required to interact with authorities, NGOs and community members to come to an appropriate solution.
Their role is challenging because this deals with people and whole community who contain very high diversities in financial conditions, occupations, micro politics and sociological characteristics in the community itself.

Demand of architects with expertise in Affordable Mass Housing
The prime reason for the need of affordable housing is the inward migration of families from rural and semi-urban to urban areas. Presently, the affordable housing sector is facing a shortage of several million units in urban areas only. Moreover, the affordable sector is nowhere near in fulfilling this ever increasing demand. The Private developers, Government agencies and NGOs are involved in construction of affordable Housing.
Huge number of expert Architects are required for the same. The experts should be very well aware about the social, economical and cultural background of the user. They can give appropriate solutions to the problems that have an aesthetic value as well as fulfill day-to-day requirements along with proper Infrastructure.
